How to Automate Low Power Mode on iPhone Based on Battery Level
Summary:
If your iPhone often runs out of battery before the day ends, Low Power Mode can help extend its usage. This guide shows how to automatically enable it when your battery drops to a level you define.
Many iPhone users are familiar with the Low Power Mode suggestion that appears when the battery hits 20%. You can also manually activate it by going to Settings > Battery and turning on the Low Power Mode switch.
However, if you find yourself enabling it every day, it’s much easier to automate the process using a custom battery threshold. Here’s how to do it using the Shortcuts app.
What Low Power Mode Does
Before setting up the automation, keep in mind that Low Power Mode limits certain iPhone functions to preserve energy:
Reduced system performance
Background app refresh is disabled
Mail fetch is manual
Visual effects and screen brightness are minimized
If you’re okay with these trade-offs, follow the steps below.
How to Set Up the Automation
Open the Shortcuts app and go to the Automation tab at the bottom.
Tap the “+” icon in the top-right corner and select “Create Personal Automation.”
Scroll down and choose Battery Level.
Check “Falls Below” and drag the slider to set your desired battery percentage (e.g., 40%).
Tap Next, then tap Add Action and search for Set Low Power Mode.
Select the action and make sure it’s set to Turn On.
Tap Next, disable Ask Before Running, and confirm by tapping Don’t Ask.
Tap Done to finish.
Your iPhone will now automatically enter Low Power Mode when the battery drops to the level you chose.
